Wetumpka, AL – The Elmore County 250th Celebration continues with its third signature event on Thursday, September 25 at 6:00 p.m. at the Wetumpka Civic Center, located at 410 S. Main Street, Wetumpka, AL 36092. This exciting evening brings together art, history, and community in honor of Elmore County’s 250-year legacy.
The evening will begin with a Presentation of the Colors by the local Color Guard, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Guests will then enjoy two featured presentations:
- Introductory Presentation: “The Dixie Art Colony”
Presented by Jennifer Eifert, Executive Director of The Kelly Fitzpatrick Center for the Arts, this segment will explore the influential art community that shaped regional creativity and culture. - Main Presentation: “Inspired by William Bartram: Southern Landscapes by Philip Juras”
Philip Juras, award-winning artist and author, will discuss his exhibit and book, The Southern Frontier: Landscapes Inspired by Bartram’s Travels. Juras will share new drawings and paintings that explore some of the forgotten landscapes Bartram so eloquently depicted in words. Bartram, America’s first great naturalist, traveled the South during the Revolutionary War era in the 1780s, including what would eventually become Elmore County. Juras’ work honors Bartram’s profound impact on how we view Southern nature, offering a visual connection to the region’s history. For more information about Juras’ work, visit philipjuras.com.
This is a free public event, and all are encouraged to attend and celebrate the heritage and culture of Elmore County.
