The City of Millbrook gathers, Sept. 11, 2025, at the Millbrook Area Chamber of Commerce to mark the 24th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001.

“Every time you talk about 9/11, the first thing that comes to mind—if you’re old enough—is where you were and what you were doing,” said Al Kelley, Mayor of Millbrook.

Nearly 3,000 lives were lost that day, including 343 firefighters and 72 police officers, in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and aboard United Flight 93.

“What most people don’t know is that, according to the Cost of War Project, over 14 million people died as a direct result of military operations and the effects of the cowardly acts that ensued that day,” said P.K. Johnson, Chief of the Millbrook Police Department.

Millbrook’s observance included a solemn moment of silence and a bell toll ceremony, marking the times when the planes struck, each tower fell, and Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania.

Members of Trail Life Troop 125 and the American Heritage Girls recognized local first responders and military personnel with tokens of gratitude, personally thanking each for their service and sacrifice.

Before refreshments and fellowship, U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Brannon Bowman, who served as master of ceremonies, offered a final reflection:

“We remember and honor the extraordinary actions on that day and each day since, looking forward to a day when there will be peace.”
