Leading 7-0 at halftime, the Prattville Lions scored three 3rd quarter touchdowns to pull away and coast to a 27-6 win over Oak Mountain in a Class 7A Region 3 matchup on Homecoming at Stanley-Jensen Stadium. The victory was also the 600th win in Prattville High School football history.
The only scoring in the 1st half was a 16-yard 1st quarter touchdown pass from JJ Williams to Deshawn Hall to give the Lions a 7-0 lead. Bryan Thomas had an interception and fumble recovery for the Lions’ defense in the opening quarter.
Both teams missed scoring opportunities in the 2nd quarter. Oak Mountain kicked a 30-yard field goal wide left, and Prattville threw an interception in the end zone just before half.
For the second week in a row, the Lions came out hot in the 3rd quarter. Running back Tristin Blackmon scored on a 50-yard touchdown less than a minute and a half into the 3rd quarter. On the next possession, Lions defender Caleb Martin scooped up an Oak Mountain fumble and returned it 40-yards for a Prattville touchdown. The extra point was blocked but Prattville led 20-0 with 9:30 remaining in the 3rd quarter.
Prattville’s final score on the night came on a 2-yard touchdown run from Blackmon. The Lions took at 27-0 lead into the final quarter.
Oak Mountain was able to get a single 4th quarter touchdown but no more, as the Lions won 27-6.
For the night, the Prattville defense forced 5 turnovers.
Prattville running back Tristen Blackmon rushed for 172 yards and 2 touchdowns. Prattville wide receiver Deshawn Hall had two receptions, one for a touchdown.
The Lions record improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in region play.
Next week, the Lions will travel to face Tuscaloosa County in another Class 7A Region 3 matchup. Prattville will return to Stanley-Jensen Stadium in two weeks to host the Hoover Buccaneers.
