Zachary Bigley, Mayor of Pine Level, has officially declared Sept. 5th as Marbury Northstar Marching Band Day, Sept. 4, 2025, at Town Hall.

Founded in 1975, the Marbury High School Band has grown into a powerhouse program. Today, its 120+ members carry forward a rich legacy that includes the concert, symphonic, jazz, and basketball pep bands—along with the school’s iconic marching band.

“We, as a town, like to look towards our future because we always want to keep growing, but we can’t forget to remember and honor our past,” said Bigley. “We wouldn’t be here today without those who paved the way in our past.”

Over the years, the band has built an impressive résumé, performing at events such as Talladega Superspeedway, NBA and MLB games, the Kentucky Derby Parade, and the Country Music Hall of Fame. The group has also earned superior ratings at state-level competitions.

“We thank our town leaders for this meaningful recognition and invite everyone to join us in celebrating the legacy we’ve built—and the bright future ahead,” said Brett Johnson, Director of Marbury High School Band.

A 50th-anniversary celebration will take place during the Marbury football game on Friday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. Their patriotic pregame show will feature more than 300 performers from preschool through 12th grade, including students from Marbury Middle School and Pine Level Elementary.

At halftime, the band will also honor its former directors and perform alongside alumni musicians in a special reunion show.

For those unable to attend, the band’s halftime production, “Northstar Galaxy”—an energetic alien-vs-astronaut performance featuring classics like “Rocket Man,” “Mars,” “Mr. Blue Sky,” “Space Odyssey,” and “Fly Me to the Moon”—will be showcased at upcoming football games and at the Camellia Marching Band Festival on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025.
