During his high school career, Wetumpka baseball player Ty Brooks was named Class 6A 2nd Team All-State in 2022 and All-State Honorable Mention in 2023. He also represented the Indians in the 2022 AHSAA North-South All-Star game. Brooks graduated from Wetumpka in 2023 and moved on to the University of South Alabama Jaguars.
As a freshman, Brooks started in two of 13 games, according to the USA website. He returned to South Alabama for his sophomore season and made a big jump, starting 42 of 46 games at shortstop.
“I love playing at South Alabama,” said Brooks. “It has been everything I expected; I have enjoyed my time there. During the year, I had ups and downs. I felt really comfortable during the back half of the year, and it translated for me. Some adjustments through the year allowed me to produce more offensively.”
At the plate, Brooks had 27 RBIs, which included a season-high performance of 3 RBIs in a game against Ole Miss from the SEC. Brooks had a season-high 3 hits in a March game against Louisiana Tech.
The Wetumpka graduate excelled defensively for the Jaguars. The Jaguars’ website shows that in 146 defensive chances, Brooks recorded a .945 FLD% on 89 assists, 49 putouts, and he rolled eight double plays.
Brooks hopes to make another big jump in this third season at South Alabama. “My goals for next season are to take another step in the program as a returning junior. I want to become the best defender I can be as a shortstop. I think that position can change games on defense alone, that’s a big goal for me, along with taking more mature at bats.”
The Jaguars finished the 2025 season with a record of 23-28 with a conference record of 12-18. One of those non-conference wins came over #13 Ole Miss, when Brooks went 2-4 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
“I like to win. Everything you prepare for all year long is to win, everything you do during the fall and offseason is to help your team win. So, for me, anytime you win, it’s a good one.”
The Jaguars played Auburn in a March game at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery. During the game, Brooks had a hit and 2 RBIs.
“Playing in Montgomery at Riverwalk Stadium was a cool experience for me,” said Brooks. “Growing up in Montgomery, I had been going to that stadium watching games, so playing there was cool!”
Brooks spent the summer preparing for his junior season, but also got to spend time with his family before returning to campus. “I spent the month of June and early July training at Ground Up Performance in Wetumpka with Bradley Roney. This gave me a chance to spend time with my family while focusing on going into the coming year.”
