After two seasons on the University of Memphis volleyball team, former Prattville Christian Academy star Hannah Jones has transferred to Ohio State University for her final two seasons. As a sophomore at Memphis, Jones was named 2nd Team All Conference, leading the Tigers in kills after averaging 3.45 kills/sets during the season.

“Memphis gave me lifelong friendships and the foundation to take the next step in my volleyball journey,” said Jones.

But the opportunity to play for a powerhouse like Ohio State was too much to pass up.

“I was blessed with the opportunity to challenge myself at the highest collegiate level in the Big Ten Conference, with elite competition and national exposure. This was a chance for me to grow not just as a player, but as a student athlete committed to both academics and athletics. I grew up watching Big Ten Conference volleyball, but never imagined I was skilled enough to get in the conference. I hope my story inspires other athletes in our area to hold on to their dreams, work hard and stay committed. I attribute my success to Jesus Christ who makes all things possible. Glory to HIM!”

Jones helped lead Prattville Christian Academy to the Class 3A volleyball state championship in 2022. It was the school’s first ever state championship in volleyball. Jones was named the Class 3A State Champion MVP. She was also named AVCA All-American First Team and AHSVCA First Team.

She hopes to continue playing at a high level for the Buckeyes. “I plan to be a consistent contributor in my position, sharpen my skills and compete against top-tier programs. One goal for my team is postseason success.”

Jones has had a very busy summer, spending time at school, training, but also spending time with family.

“My summer has been dedicated to strength training, skill work, and maintaining physical readiness for the demands of the season. I often spend extra time in the gym, whether working with my trainer or running individual drills with my dad to sharpen my approach, timing and power as a hitter. The other important aspect of my summer was the opportunity to connect with my teammates and get acclimated to the team culture. I was also enrolled in two summer classes. Overall, it has been a really busy summer, and I had the opportunity to visit home and travel with family. My family has been extremely supportive through my volleyball journey, and they help me stay grounded.”

The former PCA state champion’s bio on the Ohio State website says that Jones wants to play professional volleyball and become an optometrist after college.

The Buckeyes will open the season late August in Coral Gables, Florida, in the Canes Classic. They will take on VCU and the University of Miami.
