Reminder: Door-to-Door solicitation requires business license in Millbrook

From Chief P.K. Johnson

Millbrook Police Department

Due to several recent complaints from our citizens regarding door-to-door solicitation occurring in the city, the Millbrook Police Department seeks to remind those engaged in these practices they MUST have a business license first within Millbrook’s corporate limits.

Under Section 50-111 of the Millbrook Municipal Code of Ordinances, people engaging in door-to-door solicitation must have a business license issued by the City of Millbrook. Individuals wishing to obtain a Solicitor’s/Peddler’s License must file an application, which must be approved and license issued prior to engaging in said practice. Anyone found to be in violation may be issued a citation, court summons or possibly face arrest, should it be determined that that repeated or previous violations have occurred.

The purpose of this release is twofold, one we want vendors and solicitors to be aware of our ordinance requiring a business license to engage in this activity and for them to be in compliance. We also want our citizens to be aware of these requirements. If a vendor/solicitor calls upon you, it is perfectly fine to ask if they are licensed to operate in our city and request to view documentation of same.

Anyone who has questions or suspicion that someone is operating in violation of our city ordinances, may contact either City Hall at (334)285-6428 or after business hours or weekends, they may contact the Millbrook Police Department.

Anyone wishing for additional information on the ordinance and its requirements may review the ordinance in its entirety on the City of Millbrook’s webpage under Municipal Ordinances.
