Tuesday night at the Prattville Council meeting, Mayor Bill Gillespie gave an update on the Bent Tree neighborhood, that has had ongoing flooding issues for residents for many years.

“Our city attorney has worked very diligently to get the easement signed, allowing our city staff to access and evaluate the ground water system in the Bent Tree area. During this evaluation process, our team discovered and removed some debris that was blocking the system,” Gillespie stated.

Gillespie said he went to the area just prior the council meeting, and said all is looking good, even after a tremendous amount of rain in the past few days.

Councilor Marcus Jackson, who was deeply involved to try and get relief for the Bent Tree residents, said he appreciates all that has been done. He organized a meeting of local officials to meet with residents last year, to discuss the ongoing issues. He contacted city authorities to see if a resolution to issues could be found. That has been a success, and residents are appreciative.

“Everyone can breathe a sigh of relief having that resolved,” Jackson said.
