Updated to include booking photo from Elmore County Jail
A Millbrook man identified as Terrie McKeithen, 26, is in custody after a three-hour standoff with officers from two different agencies, while refusing to exit a residence in the 4400 block of Hwy. 14 in Millbrook.
Millbrook Police were originally called at 5:43 p.m. in reference to an alleged domestic violence incident and met the reported victim at a nearby restaurant. Meanwhile other officers responded to the residence of the suspect and attempted to make contact with McKeithen.
When the suspect refused to communicate, officers also learned that McKeithen had warrants with the Elmore County Sheriff’s office. Sheriff Bill Franklin was notified, and he and several of his officers arrived on scene.
Again, officers from both the Millbrook Police and the Sheriff’s Office attempted to make contact. They then received information that two young kids were also in the house with the subject. Officers were then able to gain entry without force and the suspect immediately was taken into custody without further incident.
McKeithen faces warrants with the sheriff’s office that include possession of marijuana second degree and possession of a controlled substance. He now also faces misdemeanor charges from Millbrook Police including third degree domestic violence and obstruction of governmental operations.
“There is just no reason that it got to this point, and if (the suspect) would have simply communicated with us, it would have been a lot easier on everyone,” Chief P.K. Johnson told the EAN. “I want to offer a sincere thank you to my officers and members of our special operations unit, and to Sheriff Franklin, who provided additional officers from his special operations unit as well. We are very blessed to have area departments who work very well together.”
McKeithen was booked into the Elmore County Jail, with no bond listed at this time. A mugshot was not immediately available. We will update this article with that information when available.
