The Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs and staff at the William F. Green State Veterans Home proudly celebrated a milestone birthday for one of its most distinguished residents, World War II veteran Silas Pope, who turned 101.
Staff, family members, and fellow residents gathered to honor Mr. Pope with cupcake, music, and heartfelt tributes to his life and military service. Pope, who served in the U.S. Marine Corp, also received a commendation from Governor Kay Ivey to honor his service to our great nation.
