From Elmore County
Auburn Club
The Elmore County Auburn Club will be hosting the annual “Live the Creed” banquet on July 8 at the Wetumpka Civic Center. This year’s award will be presented to Luke Deal, the two-year captain of the Auburn University football team for 2023 and 2024. Luke played as a tight end in 64 games, the most of any Auburn player in the history of Auburn football. Luke was the recipient of the “Shug Jordan Award,” presented to a scholar/athlete who demonstrates leadership, service, scholastic accomplishments, and athletic ability. He was also a semifinalist for “The Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year”, which recognizes a college football player who demonstrates exceptional leadership, courage, integrity, sportsmanship, and a commitment to community, family, and teammates. Luke recently signed with the Detroit Lions of the NFL as an undrafted free agent. Luke has a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Auburn.
The “Live the Creed” award was created by the Elmore County Auburn Club in 2024 to recognize an Auburn individual who embodies the “Auburn Creed” and positively influences others. The Creed was written in 1943 by Auburn professor and the school’s first football coach, George Petrie, and emphasized the importance of hard work, education, honesty, and respect.
Last year’s recipient of the award was Auburn basketball center, and fan favorite Dylan Cardwell, the center on Auburn’s basketball team that won the SEC title.
The banquet will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at the Wetumpka Civic Center beginning at 5:30 pm. Auburn Head Football Strength and Conditioning Coach Dom Studzinski will also be attending to provide an update on the team’s offseason progress and expectations for the upcoming football season. In addition to dinner, there will be Auburn cheerleaders present for photos and autographs. Attendees will also have the opportunity to win Auburn merchandise. Adult tickets are $50 for adults and includes a prime rib/chicken dinner and $25 for children, which includes a chicken finger plate.
