From Rebecca Thomas, Communications Coordinator
Autauga County Schools
Autauga County Schools is again participating in a summer feeding program as a part of the USDA’s Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). This federally funded, state-administered program provides free meals to children 18 or younger. Participants do not have to reside in the district or be enrolled in the Autauga County Schools’ system, but everyone is required to pre-register to participate. The SFSP program allows for the distribution of more commonly eaten items, but they are distributed in bulk, unlike the bagged items from last year. The free meals are ten days of breakfast and lunch options, including fresh fruit, vegetables, and milk.
New this year! Only one registration per family is required for each feeding date. Once you complete the family registration form (listing all children in one registration), a QR code for each registered child will be sent in one email to the email address provided. Each QR code is required to pick up meals, so please save it somewhere that’s easily accessible. It’s recommended that participants take a photo or screenshot of the code for quick access when picking up food.
“We are thrilled to support our community through this year’s free summer feeding program,” said Audra Segers, CNP Director. “No child should go hungry, especially during the summer months when school meals are closed. We’re proud to do our part in making sure every child has access to the nutrition they need to thrive.”
Pre-registered participants can choose to pick up at Marbury High School (2360 U.S. Highway 31 North 36022) or Prattville High School (1315 Upper Kingston Road 36067) from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. on the following dates: May 29, June 5, June 16, June 26, July 7, and July 17. All participants are encouraged to designate a spot in their vehicle before arriving at a location and bring a cooler or plastic tub to transport the items home.
