From Captain William Bibb Chapter
National Society Daughters of the American Revolution
Elmore, AL – Seven students from Edgewood Academy were recognized by the Captain William Bibb Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution at their local school’s award program on May 9, 2025. Elizabeth Gillian, 1st Vice-Regent, and Jane Burris, Regent of the Captain William Bibb Chapter were on hand to present the awards.
Senior Elizabeth Walker Ellis was awarded the DAR Good Citizen Award. This award recognizes an outstanding young person who demonstrates the qualities of good citizenship in their home, school and community. The Good Citizens Pin, awarded to the recipient along with a certificate, is especially symbolic of this award. Thirteen stars border the circular pin representing our nation’s thirteen original colonies. In the center, there are four books. The titles of these books are Dependability, Service, Leadership and Patriotism – all qualities of good character which are emphasized by the DAR.
Six participants in the DAR American History Essay contest were also recognized at the awards ceremony. The essay topic, “Enjoying A New Kind of Tea Party”, guided students to write about the Edenton Tea Party in North Carolina. All of the students received a certificate. Grade level winners Newt Cain (grade 6), Lexie Forte (grade 7) and Amelie Kujala (grade 8) also received a medal from the Captain William Bibb chapter. At this year’s State DAR Conference it was announced that Newt Cain and Amelie Kujala had been awarded 2nd place for their grade level for their submissions. Newt and Amelie each received a certificate and a $75 check from the Alabama Society DAR.
Members of the Captain William Bibb Chapter of the DAR are honored to be able to recognize each of these students and congratulate them for their outstanding performances in school this year.
