The Millbrook City Council unanimously voted this morning to move all voting for the upcoming municipal elections to the Field House of 17 Springs.
Municipal elections, including those for Mayor and Council, will be held Aug. 26 of this year.
The vote came after the second reading of Ordinance 25-02.
What this means is there will not be individual locations for voting precincts for the upcoming election, but rather all voting will take place in one location. In the past, Millbrook had multiple precincts, and also consolidated previously at the Millbrook Civic Center.
This vote for the Aug. 26 election should remove any confusion over where Millbrook residents will vote, officials said.
In other business, the Council heard from a representative of Jackson Thornton, which handles the city’s yearly audit. The news was very positive, and the representative praised the city, for a clean audit, with no findings.
The council also authorized Mayor Al Kelley to enter into a professional services agreement with Dalhoff Thomas Design, LLC. The city is working on updating Village Green Park, including property around where Big Mike’s Steakhouse will be located, and also the downtown area in general. We will have more on the plans for downtown in a future article.
The Council also voted to distribute $25,000 to the Elmore County School Board for construction of an obstacle course and rappelling tower near Millbrook Middle School. The facility will be used for training purposes for the Stanhope Elmore High Army JROTC program, as well as area first responders. It is also planned to be used for future tournaments, that could draw competitors from throughout the state. Council member Jimmy Harris said once the project is complete, it will be in the only one like it in Alabama. The Elmore County Commission recently presented a check for $200,000 for the project. The Elmore County Board of Education is also contributing, with $25,000.
