According to Elmore County Schools Superintendent Richard Dennis, there was no gun found in a student’s backpack today at Airport Intermediate School, but rather a clip for a gun.
This afternoon, a bus driver had picked up students from Coosada Elementary and was headed to Airport Road Intermediate School for another pick up, when an object fell out of a kindergartner’s bag. Over the radio, she said she had a gun, by mistake.
Officials immediately secured the clip, according to Dennis. He said at this time, the parent of the child has confirmed they had mistakenly put the clip in the child’s bag when they were attending a military graduation ceremony and could not bring it into the building. The parent forgot it was in there, and the child went to school with it in the bag.
The Superintendent said a release will be put out concerning the incident with any updates, but the details he shared with us are correct.
