The Elmore County Commission has approved many quality-of-life projects recently, and at their Monday night meeting additional projects were announced.
This was made possible as some earlier quality of life projects did not use all the funds set aside in the budget, as some bids came in lower than expected.
Because of that, extra projects now approved will benefit areas such as Eclectic, Holtville, Millbrook, Tallassee and Wetumpka.
In Millbrook, the Commission approved a rappelling tower for Stanhope Elmore High School that will not only benefit students, but other agencies who will have use for training. The commission also authorized a new tarp for the field used by the baseball program.
Another project now possible is for the Kowaliga Boat Ramp area which will expand access, and includes a new pavilion. Improvements last year focused on improving the parking lot and additional lighting.
Other projects will benefit Elmore County High School, Holtville High School, and Tallassee High, and Wetumpka High athletic programs.
In other business, Commissioner Henry Hines said this year’s Spring Cleanup of litter has the largest number of organizations signed up to date. That event will be held April 4-6. It is not too late to register for this event.
Hines said a huge number of schools, churches and other organizations will make a big difference this year, and he looks forward to reporting the final amount of trash picked up from roads and areas within the county.
The deadline to register is this week. You can register at www.elmoreco.org/environmental
