The Prattville Chamber of Commerce held their March Luncheon Wednesday at Catfish House in Millbrook. Prattville Mayor Bill Gillespie, local business representatives, chamber members, ambassadors and locals gathered in support of the chamber as well as enjoying a delicious lunch of catfish, chicken and all the fixings.
The official sponsor for the event was Day Structures. As everyone enjoyed lunch, Jeremy Day with Day Structures presented guest speaker, Captain Jason Cupps, with the Prattville Fire Department.
Cupps has been with the Prattville Fire Department for five years now in addition to several years with another station. He spoke about his team and how much he enjoys working with them. The fire department welcomed a new fire Chief, Josh Bingham, as well as a new fire Marshall, Craig Allen in 2024. In the same year the fire department gained thirteen new fire fighters. Cupps told the group that they were able to hold their recruit training class at their own training facility.
Captain Cupps educated everyone in attendance on the ins and outs of the hard-working fire department and his team. He was able to share that the Prattville Fire Department was one of the departments requested and deployed to North Carolina in 2024 for Hurricane Helene relief and rescue. The department members deployed were so touched by the deployment that they initiated a donation drive after returning home. Some of the department’s firefighters were able to make the trip back to North Carolina to deliver the donations from the drive.
In addition to the department’s hard work and dedication afar, they are tirelessly helping the local community with everyday calls. Cupps shared that there were 6,471 calls made last year and that 5,055 of those calls were EMS calls. He went on to say that a large portion of those calls were due to falling incidents. The department has come up with a fall prevention list and intends on helping the community in diminishing falls by offering home safety checks. Part of the dedication of Prattville’s Fire Department is providing public education to the community, and they want the public to be educated not only on fire safety but general safety in home and work as well.
