Elmore Autauga News

In reports from Elmore County Commissioners Monday at their meeting, District 1 Commissioner Henry Hines said the Elmore County Cleanup to fight litter is coming. It will be held April 4-6 across the county.

Hines said “The great news is we have already had several teams to sign up. It is moving faster than in the past so that is great news.”

Hines added that a challenge has emerged as to which team can gather the most litter. Each year, thousands of pounds of trash are gathered in the spring off area roadways and properties. Hines said it is a never-ending battle, but it has to be done.

There is a challenge this year from Elmore County High to Tallassee High, Holtville High and Stanhope Elmore High to get their athletic teams involved in competing.

Commission Chairman Bart Mercer said, “Last year was a very successful year, so I appreciate all my fellow commissioners helping and for all you do for our citizens. This program has really grown over the years.”

Hines also reminded everyone that the grand opening of Phase II at 17 Springs will be held Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. and the public is invited.
