The Prattville City Council has passed a resolution concerning $15 Million in General Obligation Warrants that will allow for multiple improvements throughout the city including renovations, construction and extension of various locations and facilities.
These include:
Capital improvements and renovations to Vista Point Park
Capital improvements and renovations to Spillway Park.
Construction of a public safety training facility.
Extension of Laney Drive.
Capital improvements and renovations to City Hall Annex.
Capital improvements and renovations to Stanley Jensen Stadium.
Capital improvements and renovations to Newton Park.
The city is now authorized to structure and offer to the public market of its General Obligation Warrants, Series 2025 (the Series 2025 Warrants) to finance all costs.
In his report to the council, Mayor Bill Gillespie gave some explanation on the warrants.
“I have talked about this before. This annual debt service is to be funded on a prorated basis with the Parks and Rec one cent, Public Facilities one cent and Infrastructure one cent funds,” he said. “I have stood up here many times before talking about good debt and bad debt. These projects will benefit our community in so many ways. One of the projects is our Public Safety Training Center in the West Industrial Park. When you have a need, you have the resources dedicated for that. It is almost like in our personal lives, if we have to buy a house or car, we know we have a budget for it. We have the resources here. That is definitely a good debt in my opinion.”
If you are interested in reading the full resolution, it is available on the city’s website in the agenda packet for Feb. 4, 2025, under the Government and Council sections.
