From CJ Robinson

In Elmore County, 45-year-old Yolanda Hurst, of Montgomery, has been found guilty in a jury trial which was on appeal from District Court. She was previously convicted in front of Elmore County District Judge Glenn Goggans.
On December 26, 2022, at approximately 5:30 p.m., 17-year-old Bethany Walters of Tallassee was driving her Honda Accord when she was hit head on by Hurst who was driving a Toyota Camry. Bethany Walters was rushed to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead after arrival. The wreck occurred on Alabama Highway 229 about six miles south of Tallassee. Criminally Negligent Homicide is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.
District Attorney CJ Robinson said, “The loss of life of a young, vibrant 17-year-old girl is a heavy weight to have to reconcile. Bethany’s family has been devastated by this avoidable tragedy, and the world is a darker place without her presence in it. I hope the Walters family can find peace as the legal process has been brought one step closer to an end. Their support and encouragement throughout this case motivated us to keep seeking justice for Bethany. Now we start preparing for sentencing. I am so proud of the dedicated individuals from ALEA and the members of our team here at the DA’s Office that worked tirelessly on this case.”
Sentencing for Yolanda Hurst is set for March 3, 2025, before Circuit Judge Joy Booth.
