Elmore Autauga News

The Vida Parade rolled in Autauga County Saturday, with Grand Marshal Leo Motley. This great cook is well known as the man who has organized the camp stew cooking each year. His efforts have fed a lot of families. He is very involved in the Vida Community and serves as vice president of the association.

This year there was not a camp stew sale, but we are told it will be back next year bigger and better. We are looking forward to it already and thank Mr. Motley for all of his years of service to his community.

Alicia and Bart Ivy are two of the primary organizers of the event. Both said that Motley has gone above and beyond over the years in his service to all.

Also enjoying the parade as a former Grand Marshal was Ralph Mims, at now 94-years-young. His roots run deep, but not as deeply as his love for his family, neighbors, and his community. Mims served as Grand Marshal last year, and this year he was surrounded by his family on their float.

The parade began at the Vida Community Center rolling down CR 19, then turning around and back to the center.

Beautiful old cars, tractors, horses, go-karts, wagons, Santa, Elvis, area court judges, officials and more were on display for the parade. Line the route were families and kids, eager to catch some candy. We can officially tell you, they all racked up on the goodies with plenty to spare.

Afterwards a free lunch was offered to all, though donations are always appreciated. Santa visited with the kids. A raffle was held for some wonderful items. This event has truly become one of the EAN’s favorites to cover, as it is all about community, no nonsense, American patriotism, knowledge of the real reason for the season and so much more.

We want to thank the Vida Community center, all of the organizers, cooks, servers and participants. This year did not disappoint.

We are already looking forward to the 25th anniversary of the parade in 2025. Plans are already being discussed and it will no doubt be one to remember.
