Elmore County Historical Society
What a year it’s been for our Elmore County Historical Society! In 2024, we’ve had the privilege of hosting two cemetery tours: one at the Wetumpka City Cemetery and the other as partners with Cains Chapel at Cain’s Chapel Methodist Church. We also rolled up our sleeves and conducted a cleanup at the East Wetumpka City Cemetery with the generous help from members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In addition, we’re excited to announce the launch of our brand-new e-newsletter! Sign up today on our webpage at www.elmorecohistory.org to stay up-to-date with all of our latest activities and events.
Several of our society members are also actively participating in the Semi quincentennial Planning Committee, which is focused on commemorating our nation’s 250th anniversary. Stay tuned for more information on upcoming events related to this historic milestone!
Perhaps our biggest achievement this year was assisting in writing a grant for the City of Wetumpka to help restore the windows in the Elmore County Museum. This project is a huge step in preserving our local heritage!
As we look to the future, our goals remain strong. We aim to:
Build partnerships with local organizations
Engage with local schools to encourage students to join us for exciting events
Continue our preservation efforts to keep Elmore County’s history alive.
Strengthen our board by welcoming new members who share our passion for history.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us this year! We’re excited to continue our work in preserving and celebrating the rich history of Elmore County. If you are interested in joining our society, you can do that on our website at www.elmorecohistory.org
