The annual Alabama Waffle Cookoff served up sweet smiles and delicious fun Saturday morning over breakfast favorites. This event raises proceeds during the tasty morning which go right back to the community.
“Rotary’s motto is Service Above Self. The annual Waffle Cookoff is just one of many ways we are able to give back to the community. Some of the other service projects throughout the year include volunteering at the Heart of Alabama Food Bank, Field of Dreams, Adopt a Mile, and collecting stuffed animals for first responders,” Prattville-Millbrook Sunrise Rotary Club President Jordan Halloran said.
As the Alabama Waffle Cookoff continues to grow, so does the Prattville-Millbrook Sunrise Rotary Club. Halloran confirmed that earlier this year they were able to award $14,500 in grants to local non profits within the community.
The Prattville- Millbrook Sunrise Rotary Club started on May 26th, 1999 and now has a consistent 30 members to the club that meets weekly at the Alabama Nature Center at Lanark Pavilion. The Waffle Cookoff is their largest fundraiser all year and the proceeds from this event will go towards local nonprofits in Elmore and Autauga counties that work with the Prattville- Millbrook Sunrise Rotary club.
“This year we are hoping to be able to award even more than last year. Over the past 5 years, our club has awarded over $42,850 in local community grants. We really hope to have this event evolve to the size of the Tri County Wild Game Cookoff sponsored by AWF each spring,” Halloran said.
Halloran also stated that Rotary International has over 1.4 million members across over 220 countries that all serve the needs of others.
“Being a part of the Prattville Millbrook Sunrise Rotary club is a great way to get more involved in the community both through service, fellowship, and access to a variety of business, professional, and community leaders,” Halloran said.
Halloran also stated that he enjoys being a part of the Prattville-Sunrise Rotary because they are collectively able to make Autauga and Elmore Counties a better place to live, work and play.
