The New Prattville Kindergarten School has one more hurdle to jump over before the doors can officially be open to students, Superintendent of Autauga County Schools Lyman Woodfin confirmed.

While the school itself has passed inspection and is currently ready for the move in and to open, the last hurdle resides on Jay Street. Woodfin confirmed that he has a meeting regarding the issue with the road this Thursday, where he hopes to resolve the issues immediately to begin the move in process from the old building.

“I know this sounds like a broken record, but guys, that’s new construction. You’re going to have some issues that pop up. The school is ready to open, but the issue is with the road. With the amount of traffic that’s going to be there, there’s nothing wrong with the road, but we just have to get with the landowners around and try to fix the issue that we have,” Woodfin said.

If the issue can be resolved this week, the move into the new building will happen as originally planned, which will be 7-10 virtual days after Christmas break using a few inservice days as well.

“We know this will put a burden on our families to find daycare and that’s why I want to get this resolved and released as soon as possible,” Woodfin said.

Woodfin stated that as soon as the issue is resolved Autauga County Schools will be sure to inform families of the plan directly after they receive the news in order to make the proper accommodations.

If a resolution is not met by Thursday, Woodfin confirmed that they will probably have to push back the move into the new building further than anticipated.

“If we can get the issue resolved on Thursday, then we can put out how we’re going to transition the move to PKS. If I do not get a resolution by Thursday, then I would say the move is probably going to happen after what we had originally anticipated.”

The new building has 32 classrooms in total, 28 for kindergarten and four for preschool, where the school will be able to accommodate over 600 kids. This new building has also been constructed with concrete encased hallways which comply with the current guidelines and building codes for the state of Alabama. It is meant to withstand over 250 mph winds from tornados and other storms.

This new building is also equipped with state-of-the-art facilities that were specifically built with a kindergartner in mind, with a focus on early childhood development.
