The Autauga County Commission honored long-time Autauga County resident who was a former Prattville Police officer and former Deputy Sheriff Daniel “Doc” Jones Sr. at Tuesday night’s meeting.
Jones passed away last month on Oct. 14 at the age of 75 leaving behind his wife of 50 years Diane Jones. Others mourning his loss are his children Kim Jacksland and Daniel Jones Jr. as well as his two grandchildren and numerous brothers and sisters in law enforcement.
Autauga County Sheriff Mark Harrell read in the resolution mourning the death of Jones through tears of his own for his former mentor. Harrell stated the Jones was his first Lieutenant.
“It’s a great honor to read this resolution in remembrance of Danny Doc Jones,” Harrell said.
The resolution stated that Jones was drafted into the Air Force after high school and served in Taiwan. Jones also served as a police officer with the Auburn Police Department for 15 years before serving 17 years with the Prattville Police Department before his retirement.
Even after his retirement, Jones served as a true public servant to the Autauga County and Prattville community, serving an additional 10 years as anAutauga County Deputy Sheriff.
“Danny, known by many as Doc will be missed as a smiling warm face at the entrance of the Autauga County Courthouse where he served as a member of the courthouse security. Mr. Jones was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at the beach during the summer,” Harrell said.
Jones was also a member of the East Memorial Baptist Church where he was also known to enjoy reading and studying his bible.
With an immeasurable legacy of public service and community, Jones leaves behind inspiration in every life he touched through his church, his family and friends, through the Prattville Police Department, the Autauga County Sheriff’s Office and in the community he desperately loved.
