On Wednesday, November 13, Billingsley Senior Sadie Primm, the reigning Class 1A Hitter of the Year, signed a softball scholarship with Marion Military Institute. The junior college is based in Marion, Alabama, and located approximately 50 miles west of Billingsley. This past season, MMI placed 3rd at the NJCAA South District Tournament, and set a program record going 43-17 overall and 25-7 in ACCC play.
“It was a surreal experience and I had so many supporters there,” Primm said about signing day. “My family and close friends, classmates, and church family came to show their love and support on a very special day. I definitely could never have asked for a better support system in my life. I had all of my coaches from private coaches, travel ball coaches, to school ball coaches. My amazing athletic director allowed for it to be the most memorable experience an athlete could ask for.”
On signing day, Primm noticed the close connection between MMI Coach Jeff Benson and his daughter, Kori. “She is so sweet and I find it inspiring that she works with her father on a daily basis. She and her dad are very close and work great together as coaches for the Tigers and I hope to be like her one day. I strive to work closely with my father as I do now with my training.”
Primm visited MMI’s campus a couple years ago for a camp and later for an official visit, and plans to live in a dorm on campus when she moves in. “ I know a few signees and players from MMI already,” Primm said. “Some I have met online through social platforms, camps and tournaments, and others from local schools. They are the sweetest girls and I’m so excited to play with them.”
In addition to being named the AHSAA Class 1A Hitter of the Year as a junior, Primm was also named to the Class 1A First Team All-State by the Alabama Sportswriters Association, and she was selected to the AHSAA All-Star game.
Congratulations Sadie!
