The Prattville City Council District 1 appointee Russ Sanders was sworn in by Honorable Judge Bill Lewis at Tuesday evening’s City Council meeting.

The Prattville City Council appointed Sanders at the previous council meeting after weeks of battling seven other candidates for the position. Sanders was sworn into the formerly vacant position at the beginning of the meeting and conducted official business for the City of Prattville alongside the other councilmembers.

The vacant District 1 seat was formerly held by long-time Councilman Albert Striplin, who was serving his third term on the council at the time of his passing in late August of this year. The vacancy was declared by the City Council at the September 17 council meeting.

Sanders’ appointment will be for the remainder of Striplin’s term or the rest of the 2025 quadrennium, which is less than a year. The municipal elections for the City of Prattville for all City Council seats are set for summer of 2025.

Prattville Mayor Bill Gillespie, along with every other council member, not only congratulated Sanders but welcomed him aboard and wished the public a happy Thanksgiving.

“I just want to thank you all again for this opportunity, and I look forward to working with each of you and working for the citizens of Prattville,” Sanders said.
