Prattville Senior Kaytie Chandler has had a pretty good week.

On Tuesday, Chandler threw 5 touchdown passes for the Lady Lions flag football team in a 32-6 win over Lee-Huntsville in the 2nd round of the Class 6A-7A playoffs.

On Wednesday, Chandler signed a softball scholarship with the University of Tennessee – Martin, a Division 1 school located in northwest Tennessee. The UT-Martin Warhawks compete in the Ohio Valley Conference of the NCAA. This past season, the Warhawks posted a 30-22 record, with wins over Samford, Georgetown, St. Louis, Memphis, and Ole Miss.

Prior to signing, Prattville Softball and Flag Football Head Coach Brian Pittman told a few stories about Chandler’s history at the school. “Kaytie is a humble superstar,” Coach Pittman said. “She always puts in the work in the classroom and in the weight room. And she always gives credit to God and talks about talents that God has given her.”

Chandler then gave a speech thanking the many coaches, players, and family members that had a role in her life and was joined by family members for the scholarship signing.

Chandler verbally committed to UT-Martin prior to her junior season in September 2023. “It feels like home,” Chandler said of the place she will spend the next few years of her life. She is planning to move to Martin in August 2025. “Even in the pre-season, I’m pitching 2-3 times per week. I’m working out weekly and am making sure to eat healthy in preparation for college.”

As a junior, the Alabama Sports Writers Association named Chandler to Honorable Mention All-State in Class 7A as a pitcher.

She plans to major in pre-speech pathology.
