On Saturday, Downtown Wetumpka came alive with holiday cheer as locals and visitors gathered for the annual Holiday Open House, an event that signals the start of the holiday season in this charming small town. Organized to bring the community together and support local businesses, the Holiday Open House offered a festive atmosphere filled with shopping, activities, and—for the first time ever—a Cookie Hop.

Each year, this beloved event provides exclusive shopping opportunities, holiday-themed activities, and a chance for residents and visitors alike to enjoy the unique character of Wetumpka. The event not only celebrates the spirit of the season but also plays a vital role in supporting local businesses and strengthening the downtown economy. By shopping locally, attendees reinvest in their community, helping small businesses flourish and preserving the distinct charm of Wetumpka’s downtown district.

Executive Director of Main Street Wetumpka, Haley N. Greene, expressed her gratitude for the efforts that bring the holiday season to life downtown. “We can’t take any credit for the incredible holiday magic that transforms downtown Wetumpka into our very own Hallmark-inspired hometown wonderland—that’s all thanks to the City of Wetumpka’s amazing Public Works Department, led by Chappell Brown! The public works team spends countless hours creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere for all to enjoy. From perfectly hung wreaths on every lamppost to large seasonal ornaments and light-up displays, they bring the magic of the season to life throughout downtown.”

Greene also praised the dedication of the downtown business owners, who decorated their storefronts with eye-catching window displays and festive holiday decor. “We also can’t forget about our incredible downtown business owners who make Wetumpka shine even brighter with their stunning window displays and iconic holiday decor that seem to get more magical every year! These dedicated shop owners pour their hearts into decorating, bringing unique charm and festive flair to each storefront,” she added. “We’re incredibly grateful for the teamwork it takes to create the holiday spirit that makes Wetumpka special.”

A highlight of this year’s celebration was the debut of the Cookie Hop, a fun and delicious way for attendees to support Main Street Wetumpka’s revitalization projects. Participants purchased a custom cookie tin, which they filled with 13 gourmet cookies from participating businesses as they strolled through downtown. Along the way, families could snap photos with Santa, adding an extra layer of holiday magic to the day. Proceeds from the Cookie Hop will go directly toward economic vitality efforts that support downtown Wetumpka, ensuring that its unique charm endures for years to come.

The Downtown Wetumpka Holiday Open House continues to grow as a holiday tradition that brings the community together, celebrates small-town charm, and supports local businesses, leaving Wetumpka brighter and more vibrant each holiday season.
