Dixie Art Colony planning a busy year of programs

From The DAC Foundation Archives

As we approach the end of 2024, we have been busy traveling and working in the DAC Foundation Archives. Planning is well underway for 2025, which promises to be our most active year to date. In preparation for upcoming exhibitions and programs, we are sorting through our extensive collection of artwork and ephemera. As we do this, we will take new photographs and procure pricing for framing the artwork that is unframed or needs to be reframed, as well as pricing for any restoration work that may be required. From there, we set priorities and budgets for the work needed. This is a very labor-intensive process, and as you may know, proper archival framing is also expensive.

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to our patron, Barbara Bryan, for her generous support in covering the cost of framing “Live Oaks in the Bayou” by Genevieve McClure Southerland. Contributions like Barbara’s are integral to our success. The framed painting is shown above. The other three paintings by William Broughton Bush, shown below, will be reframed for inclusion in our upcoming June 2025 exhibition. If you are interested in making a financial donation to assist with framing costs, please contact us at [email protected]. One hundred percent of your donation will be used to cover framing costs, and your donation will be acknowledged on the exhibition label unless you wish to remain anonymous. The DAC Foundation Collection includes 31 paintings by William Broughton Bush and a sizable collection of his sketches. Bush was a very active colony participant in the Mobile County sessions.
