This week, Mayor Gillespie proclaimed November as Diabetes Awareness Month and presented the proclamation to Mikella Anderson, a semi-finalist in Miss Alabama. Ms. Anderson is passionate about educating our community about diabetes and raising awareness of the disease.
Did you know? Diabetes affects approximately 593,500 people in Alabama and is a serious illness with no known cure. It is also the eighth leading cause of death in the state.
