There were ghouls, goblins, and goodies galore Wednesday at Elmore Community Hospital, owned by Ivy Creek Healthcare.
This was their sixth annual event, but the inaugural Trunk or Treat and hayride at the hospital. Ivy Creek officials estimated over 3,000 kids attended the festivities.
“Elmore Community Hospital, for the last five or 6 years, has really put Wetumpka on the map with Halloween events. The community expects big things. It’s exciting for kids to say, ‘hey that’s my provider, that’s my doctor, that’s my nurse,’” Ivy Creek Healthcare Executive Director of Marketing Heidi Smith said.
Smith confirmed that last year there were around 2,700 to 3,000 kids that came through their annual Halloween event as well.
“This year it’s just different because we’ve involved a lot of the local businesses in Wetumpka, and they really stepped up. Half of the trunks are businesses and the other have are our employees in different departments,” Smith said.
Cars lined the parking lot with the creative decorations. The trunk decorations ranged from a spooky scary operating table to construction works and a Nightmare Before Christmas Theme.
The participants in the Trunk or Treat were also judged by Ivy Creek Healthcare, with the operating table winning first place, your very own Elmore Autauga News Funny Farm winning second place and Candy Land winning third place.
“My favorite part is seeing it all come together. To see the different businesses that are here and to see people support the hospital and just for people to like coming to the hospital is huge. Especially for an event like this that’s for kids. It’s fun for them to want to come, because usually a hospital is not a place where kids want to be so to see this is so exciting,” Smith said.
The Trunk or Treat, where spooky meets sweet, was a hauntingly great night of fun and fright.
