Everyone at Rehobeth High School knew who was getting the ball Friday night during the first three quarters when the Rehobeth Rebels hosted Stanhope Elmore in a Class 6A Region 2 football game. The Mustangs’ fans knew. The Mustangs’ coaches knew. The Rehobeth coaches, fans, and players knew. It didn’t matter. SEHS offensive linemen Macin James, Xavier Foxhall, Cameron Hodge, Raul Garrido-Mondragon, and Gabe Lewis made sure it didn’t matter with a dominant performance against the Rehobeth defensive line to lead the Mustangs to a 47-21 victory.

Running back Arthur McQueen set a single game school record with 405 yards and 5 touchdowns on just 22 carries. All that and he didn’t play in the 4th quarter. The SEHS running back had touchdown runs of 59 yards, 76 yards, 33 yards, 73 yards, and 1 yard.

Many of the long runs came with the benefit of the Mustangs’ offensive line controlling the line of scrimmage, moving the Rebels defensive line several yards off the ball.

Stanhope Elmore Head Football Coach Hunter Adams credited the play and coaching of the offensive line. “They play hard. They are physical. They are interchangeable and deep, and are extremely well coached by OL coach Jackie Smith.”

The Barnes brothers also had a good night for the Mustangs. Dezmond Barnes, a huge defensive tackle, recovered a fumble and returned it for a defensive touchdown in the 3rd quarter. His brother, Damarrian, a running back, rushed for 126 yards and 1 touchdown.

Defensively, Deondre Washington added an interception for the SEHS defense, and Kamran Anderson had several tackles for loss and quarterback pressures.

With the win, the Mustangs even their overall record at 4-4. Their region record is 2-3, but now all attention turns toward next Friday. Not only will next week’s game be the final SEHS football game ever played in historic Foshee-Henderson Stadium, but it will come with the added bonus of being against huge county rival Wetumpka, in a must-win situation for the Mustangs to make the Class 6A playoffs for the first time since 2020.

“Big games like this one coming up are what big time high school football is all about,” said Head Coach Adams. “It’s our biggest rival with post season implications on the line. That kind of pressure is a privilege!”
