With a palette of possibilities, local kids gathered at the Prattville Creative Arts Center Thursday afternoon for a free pumpkin decorating event.

This event was held on the eve before the start of the 6th annual Parade of Pumpkins which will be on display from Oct. 18-31st in historic downtown Prattville. Kids of all ages attended the event where their final masterpieces will line the streets, creating the perfect fall hallmark moment.

“This event is just one way that we try to invest in the future of Prattville by nurturing the creativity in our youth. Kids need a way to express themselves and art is a great positive outlet,” Prattville Cultural Arts Manager Mynecia Steele said.

Kids opened up their creative side and painted pumpkins with vibrant colors, some even painted them as their favorite animated characters, or decided to splatter the creativity all over the orange and rounded canvas. Creating a messy but beautiful work of art to be on display for the rest of the spooky season.

“It’s always fun to see the different ways that kids express themselves. Some kids will splatter paint everywhere. Others try to cover the entire pumpkin with one color. Other kids are super meticulous and add in all these extra little details,” Steele said.

The supplies for the event were donated by the Prattauga Art Guild, and kids painted for hours while supplies lasted.

The Prattauga Art Guild in the Prattville Creative Arts Center also has their 2024 Fall Art Show on display. With over 117 different works and 36 different artists ranging in ages from 18 to 95. The art show will be on display through the month of October.
