The Prattville Lady Lions Flag football team recently picked up two massive road wins in region play against Helena and Spain Park. With the two victories, the Lady Lions wrapped up the Class 6A-7A Region 5 championship. Add to it a non-region victory over Smiths Station, and the Lady Lions are hoping for another deep playoff run a year after advancing all the way to the Final 4 in their first season.

In the game at Helena, Prattville quarterback Kaytie Chandler threw for 3 touchdowns and rushed for 1 touchdown to lead the Lions to a 39-7 victory. Hartley McCay rushed for 1 touchdown for Prattville and had 2 interceptions. Avery Patterson also added an interception. Receiver Laniya Page had 3 receiving touchdowns.  Emma Moore, Eriana Benson, and Gabbie Hoyle each had sacks for Prattville’s defense.

Against Smiths Station, the Lions again dominated, winning 34-6 behind 5 touchdown passes from Chandler, 3 of which went to Page, who also contributed an interception to the defensive effort. Mady Cate Lindsey and London Williams also had a touchdown reception. Benson had two sacks for Prattville.

The region championship clinching victory over Spain Park was a little closer, with the Lions pulling out a 14-6 win. Chandler ran for a touchdown, and threw a touchdown pass to Brooklyn Johnson. Benson led the defense with 10 sacks and a safety. Page and Kehyliah Rogers also had an interception.

With three victories in the last week, the Lions’ record improves to 10-2 overall and 5-0 in Class 6A/7A Region 5. More importantly, the Lions are Region 5 champions and will be a 1# seed heading into the Class 6A/7A playoffs which begin in November.

The Lions will host Hoover next week at Marbury High School for their final Region 5 game of the season.
