At the Autauga County Commission meeting Tuesday evening, it was confirmed that phase one of the jail remediation at the Autauga County Metro Jail has been completed.
A representative from PH&J Architects, Patrick Addison, confirmed with the commission that phase one of the remediation is complete, and they are now ready for phase two. That project will now be sent out for bids.
“Last week we completed phase one of the remediation at the jail and we finished early. We are now prepared to put the final package out which will complete the mold remediation as well as complete the renovations and upgrades to the mechanical system and finishes,” Addisson said.
Commissioner Larry Stoudemire asked where the bid will be advertised. Addison confirmed that the bid should be advertised in the state and local print newspapers by the end of the week.
A motion to go forward with advertising phase two was unanimous within the County Commission, after months of controversy over the conditions of the Autauga Metro Jail.
Autauga County Sheriff Mark Harrell evacuated all prisoners from the facility on June 6 of this year, placing inmates in other facilities due to ongoing concerns with moisture and mold within many areas of the jail.
At the August 6 meeting the County Commission approved a bid to Stallings & Sons Inc. for the cleaning and remediation of the Autauga Metro Jail, phase one. This is after over a month of back and forth and controversy over the evacuation of the jail.
At the Sept. 17 County Commission meeting, County Administrator Scott Kramer confirmed that their field representative from PH&J had come out to review the cleanup of the remediation and stated that they are on schedule and that the process is about 40% complete, now the process is 100% complete and on to phase two.
“The sooner we can get in there, the better as long as it’s done safely and I’m assured that I can house people in there in a safe manor,” Sheriff Harrell said.
