From Elmore County Child Nutrition Program
“Your Lunch, Your Treasure! Set Sail for a Taste Adventure!” Campaign highlights
(Wetumpka, AL) – To recognize the National School Lunch Program, serving nearly 30 million children each day, Elmore County Public Schools will celebrate National School Lunch Week from October 14-18, 2024. The fun and creative campaign theme, “Your Lunch, Your Treasure! Set Sail for a Taste Adventure,” highlights the importance of a healthy school lunch to a student’s success both in and out of the classroom.
Research shows children are getting their healthiest meals at school. National School Lunch Week will highlight the nutritious foods available daily at Elmore County Public Schools. We are excited to invite all our “school lunch pirates” to join us for lunch and set sail for a taste adventure. Throughout the week, our cafes will be serving up delicious flavors from around the world. Tuesday, the menu will feature a complete Sea Rover’s Fare, and Wednesday, students will embark on a global journey with selections from six different cultures. Also, cafes will welcome special guest servers who will make the dining experience even more exciting. National School lunch week will provide our students with the opportunity to discover new tastes and treasures!
“School lunches offer students fruits and vegetables, whole grains and milk, and meet federal nutrition standards limiting fat, calories and sodium,” said Cacyce Davis, Elmore County Child Nutrition Director. “National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the wonderful benefits of our lunch program.”
On Thursday, October 10, 2024, Governor Kay Ivey officially declared October 14-18, 2024, as National School Lunch Week through a proclamation. Elmore County’s Child Nutrition Director Cacyce Davis, along with students Jordan Lowery (Stanhope Elmore High School) and Xavier Evans (Eclectic Middle School), participated in the Proclamation Signing Ceremony at the State Capital in the Old House Chamber.
The federally funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) has been fueling students for success for 77 years. Elmore County students can enjoy the convenience of a healthy school lunch at no charge due to the district’s participation in the community eligibility provision (CEP).
