I-65 pursuit ends with arrest of Georgia woman, ALEA says

AUTAUGA COUNTY – On Friday, Oct. 11, at approximately 12:03 p.m. Troopers with the  Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division attempted to stop a 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLB on Interstate 65 near the 170-mile marker. The driver failed to stop, and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended in the northbound lane of Interstate 65 near the 192 mile marker in Autauga County. A standoff then took place between the driver and law enforcement which eventually resulted in the driver’s arrest.

The driver was later identified as Choima Agurd, 39, of Lawrenceville, Ga. Agurd was arrested and charged with Felony Attempting to Elude and has been booked into the Montgomery County Jail. Agurd also has warrants through Bellaire Police Department in Texas for Aggravated Assault of a Family Member with a Gun and Aggravated Assault against a Police Officer.

ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division, State Bureau of Investigation’s (SBI), Special Agents, SWAT Team, Hostage Negotiation Unit, Aviation Unit and Deputies with the Autauga and Chilton County Sheriff’s Office all assisted with the pursuit, standoff and arrest. Agurd was the only individual found in the vehicle. Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing.
