The Prattauga Art Guild hosted their opening reception for their annual Fall Art Show last Saturday at the Prattville Creative Arts Center & Gallery. The Prattauga Art Guild 2024 Fall Art Show has 117 different works, which will be on display for the month of October, Prattauga Art Guild President Gail Coccaro confirmed.

“We are just so pleased with the number of people that turned out for this show, who came to support but also those who participated,” Coccaro said.

The show consisted of 36 different artists ranging in ages from 18 to 95, making this year’s show truly a generational show. The exhibit ranged from sculpture works, fiber arts and opaque painting, to traditional mediums such as water color, photography and so many other mediums, Coccaro confirmed.

The judge of the exhibit was Greg Skaggs, an active artist internationally and throughout the Southeast.  Recently, Skaggs was selected to show nationally in New American Drawings and regionally in Drawing on Alabama and has also had works in the Contemporary Museum of Art in Mobile and the Montgomery Museum of Fine Art.

Skaggs judged in six different medium categories and judges based on best in show, the merit award and the honorable mentions, as well as the first, second and third place finishers for each respective category.

“The most rewarding part of this process is seeing the smiles on people’s faces and the excitement on their face when someone says to them, ‘oh my that’s beautiful,’ or ‘oh wow that looks great.’ I feel rewarded then just to see them smile and be happy with the show and happy with the results. It means the efforts not in vain,” Coccaro said.

Prattville Cultural Arts Manager Mynecia Steele confirmed that this year purchase awards were also granted. This means that private companies donate money to sponsor artists and purchase their local art for various offices to be on display, such as at a doctor or dentist office around the Prattville area.

“We are just so excited about the purchase awards this year, it gives our local talent exposure and just opportunity to share the work with the world,” Steele said.

The exhibit will be on display through October at the Prattville Creative Arts Center & Gallery, located at 342 S Chestnut St in Prattville. The gallery is open Friday & Saturday 10 AM – 2 PM and on Sundays from 1 – 4 PM
