The Inaugural Farm City Festival for Elmore County was held at the Wetumpka’s Farmers Market on Tuesday. The Farm City Committee, along with the Elmore County Extension Office and the Elmore County Farmer’s Federation, did an outstanding job putting this on for the local community. There were over 400 people that came out to see various aspects of agriculture, along with games, Photo Booth, live music by Lee and Amanda Borden, face painting, live animals, a costume contest, coloring contest, and a delicious hot dog dinner. Everything was FREE at this event.
In the past the Elmore County Extension Office would host a “Farm City Day” to allow students in Elmore County to go on a field trip to their office and explore hands-on learning with animals and agricultural exhibits. By moving it to the Wetumpka Farmer’s Market, they were able to bring in more children along with families, while saving money too.
“The first annual Elmore County Farm City Festival drew adults and youth to a fun-filled afternoon learning about different aspects of agriculture and its importance to our everyday life,” said Elmore County Coordinator Katrina Mitchell.
She continued, “From animals to agricultural exhibits, to games and food, everyone had a great time, and we are looking forward to hosting it again next year!”
