The Wetumpka Elementary School, WES, will be hosting their annual fall festival, or WES Fest this week to not only commemorate the start of the fall season but to raise money for a great cause.
The event will kick off at Wetumpka Elementary School at 5 p.m. where festivities and activities will be held until 7:30 p.m., and all students and children must be accompanied by an adult.
WES principal Myeshia Brooks confirmed that there will be over 50 booths of activities, games and contests for students and adults alike during the WES Fest celebration. All proceeds will be going straight back to the kids and their classrooms to directly benefit classroom teachers.
“West Fest is our annual fundraiser that directly supports classroom teachers. The teachers every year come up with their own unique ideas for their stations and booths for games for the students. When the parents and students come in, all the ticket proceeds go directly to each classroom teacher for their unique stations that they come up with,” Brooks said.
Activities such as a cake walk, a hayride and hay maze, a paint party, temporary tattoo paintings, a coloring contest and so much more will be available.
“Boothes and stations will have things like spin the pumpkin, a crazy hat toss, and just a lot of unique and fun games that the teachers have come up with, I’m looking forward to the kids coming out and having a good time,” Brooks said.
Admission to the WES Fest is $1 and tickets for the games, contests and other fall themed activities will be sold for $0.25 cents per ticket. Each activity is between one and four tickets, Brooks Confirmed.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the big smiles on the students’ faces, this is something that they look forward to each year and coming out with their families and their costumes and winning some prizes. Last year we had a really good turnout and we’re looking for that again. we’re just really excited to have the community out,” Brooks said.
Students are encouraged to wear their Halloween costume during the festival, as long as the costume is not scary in nature.
WES Fest coordinators are still looking for donations for the cake walk in the form of brownies, pies and cookies as other sweets have already been donated, and drinks for the festival are still needed as well, Brooks stated.
Monetary donations will be accepted the day of the event as well as ahead of time and these donations would be split among teachers, Brooks confirmed.
