Big journeys begin with little steps. The Chappy’s deli in Montgomery, the Perry Hill location, will be hosting their 17th annual Breakfast for Babies fundraiser Friday September 13th, at 1611 Perry Hill Rd in Montgomery.
Chappy’s has perfected the drive-through system, stating that they have the fastest drive-through in town where all proceeds will go towards the local Baptist Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Units, or NICU’s.
For $8, a box will consist of bacon, cheese grits, eggs, a biscuit, a mini muffin, Conecuh sausage and orange juice. For a $25 donation, a T-shirt is included, Laura Barranco Feely with Chappy’s deli confirmed.
“It’s just super great because all the money stays local in the River Region. That’s our biggest thing, we’re a local business and all the money stays in an area where we can see it being used. It’s beneficial for everybody,” Feely said.
Pre-ordering and even deliveries for orders of 20 or more boxes are available. However, Feely confirmed that if someone does pull up and wants 50 boxes, due to the number of outpouring volunteers and vendors, they can “whip it out,” she stated.
The deadline to pre-order is Wednesday September 11th, and to pre-order patrons can email [email protected] or call 334.277.6590 to place a pre-order.
Feely also confirmed that they can deliver to Prattville.
The now annual event started in 2006 has raised over $500,000 for NICU babies in the River Region with last year capping at around $70,000, and 5,000 boxes of food sold. This year the goal is to hit $75,000 and sell 5,500 boxes, Feely confirmed.
Feely stated this cause is near and dear to not only her heart but the owners of Chappy’s deli as well. In 2006 the money raised for the cause was used to purchase beds that went into the local NICU’s. The very next year, the owner of Chappy’s Deli had their daughter born prematurely in the NICU. The family had to use the same beds they helped raise money for, Feely explained.
Now, many of those NICU baby graduates come and volunteer for the event, Feely stated.
“Just seeing those benefits, and not even knowing that next year that something like that would impact them so greatly. It was just huge, and it touched our hearts. Everybody knows somebody whose babies have been in the NICU, or their own babies have been in the NICU. Just knowing that we can help benefit these families who spent so much time there and help these nurses have the right equipment so these babies can grow up big and strong,” Feely said.

Their mom said, “The NICU staff’s heroic care helped us through the most challenging time of our lives, and our boys will grow up knowing the names of every person who played a part in their journey.”
