The City of Millbrook is planning to expand Fire Station 3, which is located on Deatsville Highway near the Pines Golf Course.
The expansion was approved earlier this year and would allow for much-needed additional room for not just personnel but equipment. No one can question Millbrook is growing. With that growth comes the need for more personnel and services.
The project was sent out for bids and Millbrook Mayor Al Kelley reported Tuesday to the City Council the bids came back much higher than expected. Add to that, the bids were not for the entire scope of the work, but just part.
“The bids came in much higher than what we thought they would,” Millbrook Mayor Al Kelley said. “And this bid was only for about a third of the total project. So we are going to turn those bids down and rebid 100 percent of the total project. We will see how that goes.”
Fire Chief Larry Brown said the biggest expense will be at the front end, in preparing for the expansion.
The council rejected the bids and approved to have the total project let out for new bids.
