The Autauga County Board of Education met briefly last Tuesday evening and approved a few policy changes and heard from Superintendent Lymen Woodfin in his superintendent update.

While Chairman Billy Hollon was absent from Tuesday’s meeting, the board approved the consent agenda consisting of adjustments of verbiage in various policies recommended by the Alabama Association of School Boards or AASB.

On the consent agenda, the board also approved supplemental coaching contracts for openings in various schools, and supplemental pay requests for nurses for duties as specified.

Lesley Poe, Chief School Financial Officer for ACS, went over the bank and financial statements for the month of July with the Board. Poe confirmed that the month of July is the 10th month in the fiscal year, and it will soon be coming to a close.

“Our revenues at this time have exceeded what we budgeted. But keep in mind we are receiving a lot of supplemental state grants that we have received that are effective into 2025 which is skewing the percentages,” Poe said.

Poe also confirmed that expenditures are on target at almost 84%.

In the superintendent report, Woodfin noted that at the September 10 board meeting there will be a Public Budget Hearing.

“Ms. Poe and I have been meeting quite a bit. Everything we’ve been telling the public about our budget and what our situation looks like, preliminary outlook looks like it’s going to be tight,” Woodfin said.

Also, in the superintendent’s report, Woodfin confirmed that the new building for Prattville Kindergarten School will have its final inspection on Thursday August 15th, where Autauga County Schools will meet with the contractor and hopefully have the building ready, Woodfin stated.

If all goes well, ACS will receive the punch list from the contractor and the district can start working towards getting everything moved in.

“We’re working through that process and hopefully it goes well. We don’t anticipate any issues, but if it goes well, we’ll be able to start planning the transition to the building. But it’s all dependent on the meeting on Thursday and final inspection, which we are still on track for the late September close out,” Woodfin said.

Woodfin confirmed that the school does plan to go virtual during the transition. However, Woodfin stated that families will have plenty of notice ahead of time to plan accordingly.

ACS is looking at an October move in date, which could be confirmed after ACS meets with contractors on the today.
