The Prattville Baptist Hospital has been awarded a prestigious honor of being the Patient Safety Excellence award recipient, recognized by Healthgrades. Prattville Baptist is one of only two hospitals in the state to receive this award.
“Each of you (Prattville Baptist Hospital employees) helped ensure that we continue to provide the highest level of care, keeping patient safety a top priority. I truly couldn’t be prouder of everyone who made this possible,” Prattville Baptist Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Eric Morgan said.
Healthgrades is a U.S. based company that provides their users with a marketplace of information about physicians, hospitals and healthcare providers. Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted complication and mortality rates for approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to determine this year’s top performing hospitals.
“Prattville Baptist Hospital has cultivated an outstanding safety culture that prioritizes the well-being of both patients and staff, setting a high standard for patient safety nationwide. We’re proud to recognize Prattville Baptist Hospital for providing top-quality care while preventing serious injuries to patients during their hospital stay,” Chief Medical Officer and Head of Data Science at Healthgrades, Brad Bowman, MD, said.
This year’s award recipient is based off data collected in 2020-2022, Healthgrades’s director of quality solutions Nicole Patzer confirmed.
“As you know, that was the hardest time in healthcare history to keep patients safe. This is a hospital wide recognition that requires every single person every day in order to achieve, with each and every employee here at Prattville Baptist Hospital,” Patzer said.
The Patient Safety Excellence Award recognizes 444 hospitals nationwide, or the top 10% of evaluated hospitals, that excel in providing top-quality patient care while preventing serious injuries during hospital stays.
In Healthgrades analysis of hospitals receiving this award you have a lower chance of experiencing the four leading safety indicators.
These indicators include, 67% less likely to experience an in-hospital fall, 56% less likely to produce bed or pressure sores while in the hospital, 52% less likely to experience a collapsed lung due to a procedure or surgery in or around the chest, and 71% less likely to experience catheter-related bloodstream infections acquired in the hospital.
Not only is Prattville Baptist the only hospital in the River Region to receive this distinguished award, but Prattville Baptist Hospital has also been serving the Prattville and River Region community since they opened their doors in 1952.
“Being a lifelong member here and seeing how the hospital has transformed over the years, I just have to give a big thank you to the staff here at Prattville Baptist Hospital. It takes leadership, but it also takes the dedication of the employees because these employees really give everything from their investment, their dedication and their training. I’m very proud to have this in our community, and we are so blessed for what we have here,” Prattville Mayor Bill Gillespie said.
