NFL and former University of Georga quarterback Jake Fromm visited “enemy” territory at Billingsley School last Saturday, where he spoke on the hardships that has led his football career, and his journey with God at the event.

The event was sponsored by The Bear Project, an organization aimed at providing financial support and resources for the youth of Billingsley, Billingsley Area Churches and the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions.

“Hosting an event like this, the biggest thing here is to promote Jesus around here and try to get Jesus into this community a little deeper and into our community to the kids,” Billingsley football team Chaplain, a member of Live Point Community Church and one of the organizers of the event, Kenny Coburn said.

Fromm was drafted in 2020 by the Buffalo Bills as a 5th round pick after a distinguished career with Georgia winning the 2017 SEC Championship against Auburn. He also led the Bulldogs to a 54-48 victory over Oklahoma in double overtime in the 2018 Rose Bowl.

After his collegiate career of only three years with Georgia, Fromm then signed to the Washington Commanders in October of 2022. Currently Fromm is a free agent, and stated he recently had a practice with the Green Bay Packers and is just waiting for the call.

Even in Alabama territory, Fromm stated it makes it all the more fun, and that it’s not about what jersey or color you wear. Fromm stated his bigger purpose is for Jesus, which is bigger to him than any team.

“It’s more than just what color team you support, or what team you grew up watching and rooting for, this is about Jesus it’s so much bigger than college football, NFL football and high school football because he covers all that. This is just really fun to be able to share my testimony and what Jesus has done in my life,” Fromm said.

As a new dad to a four-month-old, Fromm stated that fatherhood and being a husband has really increased his love for Jesus. Stating that he came to know Jesus in his sophomore year of high school.

“He turned my life around, saved my lost soul and now I’m living with an eternal hope and I’m very grateful. I’m just excited to wake up and worship him every day and try to do the best I can with what he’s given me. We’ll see where this journey takes me,” Fromm said.

Billingsley School is a 1A high school in rural Alabama, Fromm stated that one of his many missions has been and hopefully will continue to be the NFL locker room, but right now his current mission is expanding.

“My mission field has expanded and I’m glad I’m here tonight. If we can just affect one soul here tonight, then we’ve accomplished our mission and as long as we can help turn people towards Jesus, I think we’re doing the right thing,” Fromm said.
