A beautiful you, fearfully and wonderfully made.
A Women’s Health Initiative Brunch will be held this September with a focus on educating and promoting the wellness of women physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It will also focus on prevention and management of conditions women are faced with as identified by the National Institute of Health.
One of the themes of the event is from Psalms 139:14 “A beautiful you, fearfully and wonderfully made,” where event organizer Ester Graham stated she uses this verse in creating an example that God made us fearfully and wonderfully made.
“A lot of women conferences, or anyone who’s addressing women, whether it be spiritual needs or physical needs, they normally quote that passage that God made us fearfully and wonderfully. If he thought so much of creating us in such a majestic way then we have a responsibility to take care of our bodies physically, emotionally, and spiritually,” Graham said.
The event will take place at 10 a.m. September 21st at the North Highland Community Center, and the Women’s Health Brunch is $15 for anyone, even men, to attend, Graham stated.
Graham, a local to Prattville, is a certified wellness coach and registered nurse. Her goal is to take a holistic approach in not only educating women, but to help prevent conditions such as heart disease, hypertension, obesity and substance abuse. Simultaneously, it is about also instilling self-love and care, all in one.
“I’m trying to increase self -awareness, and to get women to become more involved, and take care of themselves. I try to help women to identify their own risk factors and to increase an awareness of what they can do to prevent the onset of chronic illnesses that is preventable, like high blood pressure,” Graham said.
In her work as a wellness coach, taking the holistic approach while also instilling education, looks different for everyone. However, Graham helps to find the perfect balance in creating a wellness plan, perfectly curated for each individual’s needs and goals. This can range from preventative measures, finding a healthier headspace, or even curating a plan to help manage already existing conditions.
“One major benefit is that it could be a preventative measure. If someone, for example, has a family history of high blood pressure. I do, I’m hypertensive, then that person can start a wellness journey with preventative strategies like watching their salt, dietary measures, exercising more, learning strategies or approaches to manage stress. We all know that stress has a hand in making any condition that we have, whether it be chronic or acute, it can cause an exacerbation,” Graham said.
Graham is still looking for volunteer models for the fashion show, and vendors that would be willing to contribute to a swag bag for attendees, or anything that could enhance the experience. Donations of time, services or gear for the swag bag would be appreciated.
Questions or inquiries can be directed to Graham at 205-950-5527 or at [email protected]
Tickets will be available at the door the day of the event, Graham confirmed. They can also be purchased ahead of time using the Eventbrite website at, https://www.eventbrite.com/e/womens-health-initiative-fashion-extravaganza-tickets-970495236377
“I’m most excited about getting women involved in becoming more proactive and taking care of themselves. I know when I finished my wellness coaching certification, one of the things they hammered into us was self -love and self -responsibility. So, I’m excited about getting women involved and excited about themselves,” Graham said.
