Main Street repaving in Millbrook set to begin this month

The Alabama Department of Transportation has let the City of Millbrook know they plan to Main Street, and work will begin perhaps by mid-August.

The repaving will south of the Pines Golf Course and along Main Street to Cobbs Ford Road.

It will take about two to three weeks to pave the roadway. Then there will be a three-to-four-week period before striping of lanes will begin. The pavement must cure before striping can be completed. This means travelers will not have clear lane markings, and that is a concern on a very busy state highway and Main Street, particularly with school opening soon.

The work could continue into September, depending on weather conditions.

Main Street is a state highway and paving and striping are not under the authority of the City of Millbrook.

Council members and staff discussed the repaving project during a recent Millbrook City Council meeting.

In other city business, the Millbrook Fire Department is updating multiple job descriptions.

“These are job descriptions that we have never had. These have always been held by volunteers. We have firefighters that have been here for 15 years and have never had a promotion,” Fire Chief Larry Brown said in the work session prior to the council meeting last Tuesday.

The descriptions to be updated include: Deputy Chief, Firefighter, Lieutenant, Paramedic, Sergeant and Battalion Chief.

During the official City Council meeting, council members approved of the job descriptions.

During the Council meeting, council members approved a public assembly permit for The Gathering Place “Praise in the Park” event. It will be held Aug. 17, 2024 and September 14, 2024 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Village Green Park and Stage.

These are free events and the public is welcome to attend.
