Citizens of Cosby Court and the Bent Tree area were awakened by gunfire in Prattville late last night.

No one was injured but rounds were fired into multiple houses and a vehicle was hit, Prattville Police Chief Mark Thompson confirmed.

“What we know right now is that around 50 rounds of spent cartridges were collected in different rounds,” Thompson said.

Thompson stated that as of now, no one has come forward that knows or has seen anything regarding the shootings in the area.

At the July 2nd Prattville City Council meeting, Napoleon Steele of the College Heights area in Prattville addressed the council during the public comment portion of the meeting.

Steele stated that the area has become too dangerous due to recent shootings at all hours of the night within that neighborhood and surrounding areas, such as Crosby Court and Bent Tree neighborhoods.

Steele alluded to people shooting within the neighborhood, loud music at all hours, trash and overgrown grass throughout the neighborhood.

Councilman Marcus Jackson voiced his frustrations at the July 2nd council meeting and stated that officials have been up there on numerous occasions to try and work with the community and encourage people to clean up and be safe.

In a Facebook post Monday morning, Jackson posted “I pray that everyone is safe after receiving several phone calls last night around 11 o’clock, from citizens, who were awakened by gunfire. I have full trust in Chief Thompson and his staff to find the perpetrators,” Jackson posted.

Thompson stated that there have been some ongoing issues within this area of Prattville, but there was not much that he could comment on at this time.
