The Millbrook City Council approved the first of four ordinances of annexation of property on Chapman Road Tuesday night.

The land is referred to as The Green Property and is comprised of one acre with one owner. The council expects to have four votes total over the coming weeks to annex the entire property into Millbrook city limits.

Tuesday night the Council had its second reading for Ordinance A24-02 which refers to the first piece of the property located at 4480 Chapman Road. Currently this specific portion of the property is considered outside of Millbrook City Limits, but within the Millbrook Police Jurisdiction.

The Council voted unanimously in favor. Not voting was Jacqueline Thomas, who was absent from the meeting.

They also had the first reading of Ordinance 24-03 for part two of the same property. This property will differ in that it currently falls within the Coosada Police Jurisdiction.

The annexation request was made by the owner of the property, who wishes for the entire property to be annexed into official Millbrook City Limits.

The Coosada Town Council has voiced its opposition to the annexation saying they feel it is illegal. Millbrook officials said they are following the letter of the law and plan to honor the owners request to become officially within the corporate limits of Millbrook.
